CALM DOWN: 9 Herbs to Help You Navigate the Holiday Season

The holiday season is filled with joy, connection, and celebration—but let’s be honest, it can also bring moments of overwhelm. Between packed schedules, family gatherings, and the endless to-do lists, it’s easy to feel frazzled. That’s where nature can lend a helping hand. Herbs have been cherished for centuries for their ability to soothe the mind and body, making them perfect allies during this bustling time of year.

Why Herbs?

Well, because I just love herbs! They've been part of my life for as long as I can remember. There’s something so grounding and comforting about brewing a cup of tea or blending herbs into a ritual. These botanical wonders offer us a gentle yet profound way to support ourselves, especially during hectic times. Unlike quick fixes that mask the symptoms of stress, herbs invite us to slow down, nourish our minds and bodies, and approach the season with more ease and joy.

Here are some of my favorite herbs to keep on hand when life gets a little too hectic:

1. Kava

If you find yourself in a moment of panic or overwhelm, kava tincture can offer near-immediate relief. Its calming effects on the nervous system make it an excellent ally for holiday stress. 2. Ashwagandha

This adaptogen is a true multitasker. It helps calm the nervous system while boosting energy and resilience. Perfect for when you’re feeling "on edge" but still need to power through holiday prep. Enjoy it in a capsule form

3. Chamomile

There’s a reason chamomile tea is a classic. Its gentle, soothing properties make it perfect for winding down after a busy day. Pair it with a cozy blanket and a good book for instant calm.

4. Lemon Balm

Bright, citrusy, and uplifting, lemon balm is a go-to for when your mind won’t stop racing. Whether you’re navigating family dynamics or juggling last-minute errands, it helps restore focus and ease. Enjoy it in both tea or tincture form

5. Valerian

When holiday excitement (or stress) makes it hard to sleep, valerian is a lifesaver. Its strong relaxing properties can help you drift off into restful slumber. Best reserved for nighttime use. Enjoy it in tincture form

6. Tulsi (Holy Basil)

This calming adaptogen is like a warm hug in a cup. Tulsi is great for lifting your mood and helping you stay grounded amidst the holiday buzz. Enjoy it as a tea with a splash of honey.

How to Incorporate These Herbs Into Your Routine

Tea Time: Brew a calming tea blend with chamomile, lemon balm, and tulsi. Sip it in the morning to set the tone for your day or in the evening to unwind.

Wind-Down Rituals: Add a valerian tincture to your bedtime routine if you’re struggling with sleep.

Stress Relief on the Go: Carry Kava or a lemon balm tincture in your bag for those moments when you need quick support.

A Simple Reminder

The holiday season doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. By leaning on the natural support of herbs, you can create moments of calm amidst the chaos. Brew a cup of tea, take a deep breath, and remember: you’ve got this.

I’d love to hear how you use herbs to stay grounded during the holidays. Do you have a favorite blend or ritual? Share your tips in the comments, and let’s support each other in making this season feel truly radiant.
